BEAST ON THE BROOK

(On seeing the victims / ravages of violence
in conflict zones- Iraq & Kashmir, on TV. )

me me
take me
out of the zoo
 today
 said the voices in unison
 – grunt, as if, from one pipe
 – mimicked, as if, by one mime.

the dark entrails of night convulsed
 and let out
 the ferocity of plural faces
into the jungle-world
for depredation ---.

chased by the Frankenstein-phobia
 the star-run-amok
 scurried westwards ---
dropping behind
Frankincense and myrrh; in its trail.

you guessed it right
 it was my birth
(to which no visitors or Harrods heeded).

the fangs of hyena
and blood-shot eyes of lion
viper’s hiss and eagle’s swoop
A-L-L
imprint my mirrored form
in the ever abounding wild moments.

looking back in thoughts
 to the road
 that travels
 through so many beastly loins
 and rests where now
 I exist
- my translucent shadow
 subsumes them all, although
 h-e-r-e
I project
 the shapely evening suit
 donned
 for the Recitation Meet.

with so many animals inside
where is the space left?
 for the HUMAN SPIRIT
 that is supposed to inhabit
 within
 --- I begin to doubt ---
 Yet
 I wish to hear
 a stirring from the hide-out
 --somewhere --
 when I call him.

when a pain groans
 when a loss weeps
when the lantern of pigeon- eyes
 flickers in canine gust
 when a child
touches my hand, silently—
and looks up
searchingly
 in my heart.

let the puss of inheritance
read aloud to my agape wounds
 the Will of Gargoyle-ism
-bequeathed by history
  to the squandering present
-littered in NEWSPRINT
  all around
and let
the cargo-less Ark of my BEING
sail off smoothly
through the straits of tomorrow
till
DOVES sight the land
beyond the ARARAT  HILLS
of my Genes and Genesis ---
-where no god rules
 over the empire of bones
 with the wand of MYTHOLOGY
-where healers stand
    with dinosaurs
    in museum- glass
   - where
   lilting tunes of the brook
sing the song of innocence –
-- T_H_E_R_E ---
 I wish to awake.
